Everything You Need to Know About the Haven on Norwegian Prima

Guests staying in this type of Haven accommodation additionally receive complimentary access to the NCL Thermal Spa Suite onboard during regular spa hours. This chic suite features large floor-to-ceiling sweeping windows, with large balcony equipped with lounge chairs. This suite includes a large bedroom, luxury bathroom, and separate living and dining room areas. The Haven is an all-suite private enclave, a virtual ship within a ship, located on the upper decks of certain NCL ships. It offers upgraded accommodations, butler and concierge service, and exclusive access to a range of other special amenities and privileges (to be described below).

Haven Suites

Norwegian Cruise Line pioneered the concept of an exclusive suite enclave, complete with private sun deck and pool surrounded by the ship's top accommodations, in 2005, and adopted The Haven moniker in 2011. The Haven promises exceptional customer service aboard Norwegian Cruise Line ships, luxurious accommodations, relaxing and exclusive spaces, and premium food options. The Haven can be an interesting and luxurious option for guests looking for an elevated experience aboard NCL vessels.

So, you won’t ever have to leave the new sundeck if you don’t want to. Ultimately, the decision as to whether or not The Haven is worth the price will come down to personal preferences (and, of course, one’s budget). Like so many other questions when planning a cruise, deciding whether or not The Haven is worth the price comes down to priorities. Service and food in the restaurant were impeccable, although it’s worth noting that the menu remains the same throughout the week.

The Haven Courtyard and Sundeck

Located inside The Haven complex, The Haven Restaurant is a private, fine-dining experience for the guests staying in the 95 suites of The Haven. The Restaurant serves unique dishes and has some interesting wine selections. The Haven is Norwegian Cruise Line's way of offering the level of service and amenities usually only seen on small boutique ships inside a giant, resort-style cruise ship.

Deluxe Owner’s Suite

Located within the enclave, this private area is specifically created for outdoor luxury. Ample seating in both sunny and shaded sections provide a comfortable spot to lounge in or out of the sun. There are views of the ocean and the opportunity to relax beside the private pools. A bubbling hot tub and bar are included on this sundeck, and a fitness center is nearby.

There are no spa cabins in the Haven that include access to the thermal suite. Further, amenities like the Prima Speedway and the Galaxy Pavilion will still be an up-charge for Haven guests on Norwegian Prima. Not to mention, there are two hot tubs on the second level and spa amenities. Yes, that’s right, you don’t even have to visit the thermal suite as a private Finnish sauna and cold room are located on the Haven Sundeck.

The Haven Accommodations

If you want the extra space and butler/concierge service, but not the price tag attached to the other exclusive Haven amenities, there are other suite options available. In addition to the suites, restaurant, and courtyard, The Haven complex on the Norwegian Escape also has this nice indoor lounge for the enjoyment of the guests. Inside the lounge is The Haven Concierge desk, where guests can make dining, spa, or entertainment reservations. Here, the menu offers a range of gourmet dishes exclusive to Haven guests. And if that’s not enough, you can order anything from any of the other restaurants or main dining on board and complimentary room service is always available. Suite amenities include pluses like a cappuccino machine, luxury bath products and a welcome bottle of sparkling wine, as well as fruit and bottled water, on embarkation day.

Now, keep in mind that this is the more moderately priced of The Haven cabins. When pricing out cabins on Norwegian Prima in a Haven Penthouse balcony versus a standard balcony cabin, the cost is 2.5 to 3x more. In terms of in-room amenities, there’s a nespresso machine and luxury bath products. You will also notice upgraded linens, pillow-top mattresses, plush bathrobes and slippers, and oversized bath towels. In recent years, this “ship within a ship” concept has become popular in the cruise industry as it provides the best of both worlds. Guests have access to all the amenities and attractions found on mega-ships of today.

As a Haven keycard holder, you will have priority reservations and seating at all entertainment venues. Before the butler leaves, inquire about getting everyone an NCL mobile phone. It is quite useful to have for communicating while on board the ship. While there, staff return for all the check-in procedures while you relax. In a matter of minutes, you are escorted to the ship and onto an elevator. Moments later, you are surrounded by luxury with a concierge at hand and more drinks and snacks about.

This Spa Suite includes all of the features and amenities as the Deluxe Spa Suite with Balcony, however, this suite does not include a separate living room area, making its square footage slightly smaller. Designed to be a romantic hideaway for guests, this suite includes a round queen-sized bed and floor-to-ceiling windows to capture the passing ocean views. Guests staying in one of the 50 Haven suites at the bow are probably most likely to forget they are on a mega-ship. Honestly though, with the current promotions for other stateroom categories, we find it hard to justify paying for these accommodations. As much as we loved the new sundeck, the extra cabin space, and the other exclusive perks and amenities, we also loved the rest of the ship. Thus, for the amount of time we spent in The Haven, the higher price point isn’t worth it for us.

For example, I was surprised that the Getaway‘s Haven courtyard does not have a covered/retractable roof. That would have been a nice perk when sailing out of New York City in March, and it is something that several other NCL ships feature. Sure, we went to several specialty restaurants but opted for The Haven’s restaurant for most of our meals.

The Haven Courtyard and Sundeck are exclusive areas for guests to relax and rejuvenate. The Courtyard, accessible to all Haven guests, includes a pool and lounging areas, ideal for families. The Sundeck, for guests aged 16 and over, offers a more adult-oriented retreat with sunbathing and hot tub facilities. Attendants provide personalized drink service, allowing guests to enjoy beverages and small snacks without leaving the comfort of their lounge chairs. Guests of The Haven have special access to dining spaces apart from that of the complimentary and specialty dining onboard NCL ships.

Priority embarkation, debarkation, seating at shows and dining reservations also come de facto with that special metallic Haven keycard. Small fees, like the charge for room service, are waived for passengers in suites on Norwegian Cruise Line. On some ships (Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Epic), Haven guests are given a mobile phone that they can use throughout the ship. Many of The Haven’s spaces are child friendly, while some spaces are reserved for older and adult guests. The Courtyard pool area for example is accessible to all guests, while The Haven Sundeck is reserved for guests 16 years and older.

The Haven Restaurant offers an unparalleled dining experience, accompanied by exceptional service. Guests of The Haven additionally have the option to have meals served to them in their stateroom by a Haven butler. Technically, The Haven is a very particular area — accessible by a special keycard — which on most ships contains a lounge area, bar, private pool and sundeck, restaurant, and concierge desk. While some suites are located within The Haven, many are found behind the enclave but still have access to it. The four Deluxe Owner's Suites on the Norwegian Escape is the cruise ship's largest and most luxurious accommodations. Measuring 1,345 square feet, these suites have a living room with a dining area, wet bar, guest bedroom with luxurious bath, separate bath, and two balconies.

Think of an upscale resort pool at the top of the ship, except it’s reserved just for you and a select few. With NCL Haven lounge access, you can easily find a quiet corner to unwind or mingle with fellow cruisers in this cozy hideaway, away from the lively energy of the rest of the ship. At the heart of The Haven is the Lounge, a space designed for serenity. Now that I’ve given you a little taste of what The Haven is, let’s get into the details of what a stay in a Haven stateroom includes. But first of all here is a little sneek peek inside The Haven on Norwegian Joy.

Another feature of the Haven on Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva is that the suites and rooms are all in the same area of the ship, connected by an elevator. This makes it feel more like a true “ship within a ship” than the Havens on the other vessels. While Norwegian Encore is no longer brand-new, it is NCL’s newest ship, a cruise line known for having the newest fleet at sea.
